Probing Islam

This site offers ‘the words of Everyman’ as reported and culled from a variety of sources.
The hope is that, grouped under different headings they may help reflect the daunting,
confrontational challenge facing societies today in West and East.

Permanent solutions and peaceful co-existence will be hard-earned under small moves.
The metaphysical, the spiritual direction is, for all, the permanent and underlying connection with the Divine.

There is always the middle way.. Pope Benedict XVI spoke about Islam and violence, and irrationality, intolerance and violence resulting. Islam is today believed the fastest growing religion in the world, an all-encompassing ‘Way of Life’

Pope Benedict XVI quoted a Byzantine ruler who was in a 14th century verbal dispute with a Muslim/Persian scholar: Somewhat brusquely and maybe in anger, the Emperor  declaimed: “Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”

It is said that the so-called Sword Verse above is drawn from content in Chapter 9 of the Koran (Qur’an). Some scholars dispute such interpretation.

‘Probing-Islam Part 1’ began by saying ‘There is always the Middle Way – if men’s hearts will open to it?’ It bent over backwards to keep a balance under specific Chapter headings and in small text bites, in reporting ‘other people’s views’ on the emotive, even threatening subject of Islam and the West yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I’m still seeking ‘the middle way’. ‘Probing-Islam Part II’ is hopefully just as balanced. You need to see this author as reporter not commentator (except for a few words, such as these author comments).

Few in the West can agree on ‘What is Islam’ today. Authors of books and websites and broadcasts throughout the West have puzzled since well before 2001 on whether ‘The West’ can understand a rising, resurgent Islam, let alone coexist with it?

How relevant are they as 'vital discussion points' compared with the 'reality' of a situation in flux? Are they truly 'all-encompassing' to the man or (woman!) in the street? who has to 'get on' with life and living, despite prejudice or bombs?
